10 Tips for Philippine Destination Weddings (Part 2 of 2)

Updated: Jun 27

Congratulations again for deciding to say I Do’s, in a place designed only for the few. It is a very interesting & challenging road, but as we always say, it's worth a journey. 😊

After the 5 important tips in our Part 1 blog, let's continue with the additional 5 helpful tips in planning, let's go!

6. Mr. Sun loves everyone but doesn’t wait for anyone

Post-nup (after the ceremony) sunset/sunrise pictorials at your cliff-top, beach-front, cove, or mountain-top wedding require perfect timing. You should capture this moment, as it is indeed beyond words, it's pure magic!

Catching this grandeur period should be supervised strictly by your experienced Event Manager, as each minute and each movement are crucial.  He/She should be on point with your program, gracefully coordinating all participants + vendors, to give you a chance to have a perfect portrait of this charming and breathtaking scene.  A time and date made only for the two of you, a special moment that will never come back.

7. Witch Weather?

One of your nemesis for destination weddings will be the uncooperative weather.  Your stylist must be creative enough to secure their beautiful designs from the start till the event is finished.  Your Coordinator should think fast and coordinate with all diplomacy what needs to be done by everyone.  Photo & Video are smart to make adjustments with their gadgets and cooperate.  Food & beverage quantity & quality must be as good as they should be by the Caterer, the rest of the vendors must also follow well.  But if you have seasoned vendors you have nothing to worry about, they know what to do, and they themselves will unite to save your day.

For harmful weather or anything that will risk the people and operation.  You have to be considerate, as unwanted changes may occur.  In this case, safety as a whole will be the general rule.  Before deciding to have a destination wedding, choose the right date but still, accept the fact you cannot win over nature, and we are all under her grace if she acts.

The top tip is to forecast 1 week before, if you can see "unfavourables", either rent a tent or transfer indoors.  Some offer eggs in a specific church as a plea for a pleasant day.  Prayer also helps, as we've seen a lot of events miraculously pass the “predicted bad weather”, and experience a beautiful day.  Do you know any other solutions?  We love to hear from you!

We emphasize this nemesis because of the risky nature of Destination Weddings.

8. Drone Issues

If your Photo & Video team will be using a drone, definitely it will not be flown if the weather doesn’t permit it, especially during January and February when it’s too windy, and June to November, the rainy season.  These vendors will not sacrifice their expensive gadgets if they are alarmed.

If flying the drones on your big day is not possible, try to ask them to copy-paste any previous drone shots of your venue “if they have”, to incorporate this to your Same Day Edit video/photo or your edited files.

9. Your Basic Weather Savior:

Drenched in the Rainy Days - (Keep yourself dry)

  • Umbrella, Rain Coat

  • Tent (transparent is ok)

  • Wet wipes – to clean fabrics and items that may be touched with soil, clay, etc.

  • Dry Clean Clothes -to use for drying/wiping

Extreme Summer Heat (Hydrate is the name of the game)

  • Cold Wipes/Towels (below zero wet wipes) relieve skin dryness and skin allergies

  • Plenty of Cold Waters around

  • Sun Screen & Bug Repellents (expect bugs in remote places)

  • Misters (Electric Fans with mist)

  • Umbrellas & Fans

  • Start the ceremony early/late (tricky one, if you are catching sunset/sunrise)

  • Tent (not transparent please)

10. Communication & Connection Challenge – Dead spots?!

There are some dead spots in these areas.  Communication is not possible by internet connections, calls, and even radios (which your vendors especially coordinators use for fast and ease of event flow).

Your Event Manager’s goal is to connect everyone and everything on-point, with diplomacy, and with a touch of grace in one.  Otherwise, the Timeline and Program will not be executed as planned.  With million-moving parts, and many people involved, this is not a joke.   And if communication fails, it’s a huge problem (which they will not tell you) but solve by themselves, no matter how hard.

Now, your venues may have lots of ups and down areas to walk to, sands to tread through, bridges to cross, stairs to climb, and strong winds or rain to weather, in an open space exposed to harmful rays and storms (whew!).  People may have difficulty in reaching/connecting because they are at the moment under these.

All your vendors, but most importantly your guests may probably experience one or two of these challenges on the day (I pray not).  So please take it into heartful consideration.

Conclusion & Recommendation:

Destination weddings are not for everyone. This is designed for those who are willing and able to pay for its cost and beauty. An event of this nature in terms of challenge and money, is not easy and is not cheap. However, destination weddings offer much more than just a wonderful memories.

From parts 1 to 2 of this blog, I hope you are now aware of the expectations, may it somehow give you a wider & deeper understanding of how you will organize your ideas.

The charm of Destination Wedding is unparalleled.   The greatest tip I can recommend is, to get the right vendors who can finely execute your plans, capture the exquisiteness of the moment, and make your dreams into reality.

Happy planning 😊
