That's awesome you're getting married in a destination, congratulations!
Whether you are dreaming of a Beachfront, Clifftop, Cove, Forest, Waterfalls, Mountain, or Lake, planning a destination I do’s is an exciting journey. Deciding to tie your knots on this road less travelled are far more than interesting, believe me.
Let me give you some basic guides to light your path as you traverse this special, and exceptional way to forever. So let me take your hand and come along 😊
1. The Tricky Three – Proximity of venue/s
The challenging part in finding dream destination venues, for any meticulous faiths (e.g. Roman Catholic, INC, etc.) require the ceremony to be held inside their church/chapel/temple that is “certified to do marriage rites”. Check your destination venue first before booking.
If your venue doesn’t have a certified place to do the ceremony, and it’s your dream to walk in the isle or it’s compulsory on your faith to wed within their premises - look for a church/chapel/temple outside your destination venue, but please consider getting the nearest one.
Traveling from 3 places, preparation to the ceremony, then to the reception on your big day is inconvenient and consumes the time of vendors (kumakain ng malaking oras). Thus you should have ample allowance on your wedding timeline.
Booking different venues is also a hassle for your guests, which should be better used to relax, and enjoy mingling with each other instead of traveling here and there.
Having all 3-venues in one place lessens the pressure on your entourage, vendors, and guests, especially in Destination weddings.
2. Ceremony Necessities – Registered or Celebration?
You may opt to Register your Ceremony to the Philippine Civil Registry, thus you need to do due diligence in filing legal documents, such as Marriage License, etc. A Municipality and Embassy may have special requirements from another Municipality and Embassy, check this out as soon as you can.
However, you may also opt for a Wedding Celebration only. The necessities are much easier to accomplish, and the Officiant requires of only a few documents. Tip: For couples based outside the Philippines, submitting a copy of your marriage certificate from your country of residence will be good ground for the Officiant to have. Secure this before you arrive in the Philippines, for better and faster transactions – message me if you need further explanation on this.

3. Are you the one paying for all the travel and accommodation expenses?
Always think of convenience for your dear guests. If they don’t have the means to reach your place, rent comfortable vehicles to transfer them. Good destination wedding venues' shortest travel time is no less than 2 hours from the city. I don’t need to say it should be airconditioned and spacious, especially for seniors & children to win over the nuisance of, you know, the 2 seasons in the Philippines - hot season and hotter season hahah!
Accommodation, if you can provide this for your guests please be generous. Otherwise, suggest the closest (proximity again) 2-3 hotels or Air BnB where they can book. The same thing for you and your fiancé + your family. Keeping in mind "less travel time = less pressure"
Choose the most convenient way, so you can enjoy your most special day. Trust me and thank me later. How to get a good rate from nearby hotels/accommodations? Well, #ALTUZevents have the answers 😊
4. Transfers Inside and Out of your Destination Premises
Check the venue's policies when it comes to vehicle entrance & exit, there are destination venues that don’t allow big vehicles such as Coasters, Luxury Vans, etc. (approx. 50 passengers capacity) because of small pave streets, the capacity of the regular vehicles to manage the heights of the roads, the loads capacity of their bridge, etc.
Occasionally the venue itself provide the necessary vehicles from their property golf cart, van, boat, private jet, etc. to ensure people’s safety while on their premises. Take note, that there is also a situation where guests have to transfer from one vehicle to another before they can reach the venue itself (meaning they need to have 2 transfers to reach one place).
Check also if there are Guest's Entrance Fees, or if it’s included in their package. Otherwise, inform your guests that they need to pay upon entering.
Your budget and itinerary will definitely be affected by all these, be aware so you can adjust and amend accordingly.
5. Breaking Language Barriers
Destination Wedding Planners have no problem using English as a medium of communication as they are used to deal with international clients.
But how about if foreign guests doesn’t speak and understand English? They also need guidance and assistance on the day. If they can’t communicate via English don’t let language be a barrier to connect them with what was happening prior to, and on the day of the wedding. Use Google Translate App to help your crews/coordinators and guests communicate with each other. If you’re using other apps and systems better than these, would appreciate knowing.
At ALTUZevents we are proud that our crews are trained on how to professionally, and creatively communicate with different nationalities. 😊
